Arsenal. Notts. Manage Southwell City. ⚽️
Enough time has gone now to accept that Gyökeres’ is causing alarm bells. Jesus has played 40mins in 4 days & we’ve created more xG in both those time periods. Considering Havertz can’t be long & Merino has excelled there, is it possible VG is genuinely our 4th most effective striker? #arsecastextra

Considering how good Nwaneri is at opening defences, taking the ball in small spaces & getting shots off, I was amazed he wasn’t preferred to Merino. Now that we have a squad big enough, is it fair to say Arteta is still learning how to fully optimise it? #arsecastextra

Playing White again? Odegaard not playing against a low block? Gyökeres absolutely garbage?

Take ya pick 🙃

Gyokeres is genuinely Arsenal’s 4th most effective striker. Havertz, Merino & Jesus are significantly better options there.

He looks rare big transfer miss.
December 10, 2025 at 9:57 PM
Jesus has done more in 15mins than Gyokeres has in a month 🤣
December 10, 2025 at 9:46 PM
The bigger worrie are Martinelli, who has looked awful, and Gyokeres, who moves like a fridge.
December 10, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Think there has to be a genuine Q towards Arteta on his use of Zubi/Rice in the last few weeks. What’s the point in Norgaard? Why can’t MLS take some mins? They both looked dead on their feet & hopefully neither start in Belgium.

Bigger pic; you’d have taken top by 2pts with the fixtures/injuries 👍

The lack of the use for Ben White is really odd. This game was perfect for him to help right side attacks and he typically adds more going forward. Is it becoming obvious that he’ll be the first big sale in the new era? #arsecastextra

Goodly morning gents. That first half was a poor, slow watch in truth but we’re finding a way. I know our start has been tough, but being 17th for open play goals feels mad. Has Odegaard’s importance to this team become more visible with him not playing? #arsecastextra

Goodly morning! Dowman over Nwaneri is intriguing, least so because it clearly signals that Arteta believes MD is a better right winger than EN, yet the latter played there most of last season and almost got double-digit goals. What’s changed? #arsecastextra

Best Gyok has been btw, thought he was brilliant most the game & doesn’t stop running! Rice back to his best, too. Mammoth result.
September 28, 2025 at 5:54 PM
There’s going to be a lot of chat about Gyokeres but his link play looked a lot better. How worried are you by our inability to create clear chances and do you think that’ll be the main thing that stops us winning anything major?
September 21, 2025 at 6:32 PM
There’s so many teams in this league that could do with Arsenal’s ‘deadwood’, and yet for whatever reason no one is moving.

Kiwior, Nelson, Zinchenko, Lokonga walk into West Ham’s side!
August 22, 2025 at 8:59 PM
Hijack Eze as an extra creator. Go for Ollie Watkins. Hijack Xavi Simons and use Martinelli as a 9 option. Rodrygo loan with obligation?

Loads of positive viable options.

But we’ll probably end up with Nicholas Jackson.

Pepe was the best player on the pitch, until Dowman came on. Both elements of that sentence are ridiculous.
August 6, 2025 at 8:51 PM
A double Q for the @arseblog.com podcast!

1) Do you find it interesting that Dowman got minutes over Nwaneri in an NLD, & what do you think the explanation is? Longer term Q on how they all fit!

2) Are we sleepwalking into the season with lob-sided attack again, as Martinelli looks way off?

Created 13.2xG against Newcastle (EFL), Utd (FA Cup) & PSG 2-legs. Scored 2, and went out of all 3 competitions.
May 7, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Newcastle did to us what we did to City, we couldn’t cope with the intensity.

The two kids have been comfortably Arsenal’s best players which says a lot. Odegaard grim. Maybe a game too far.
February 5, 2025 at 9:57 PM
I don’t get the criticism it gets. Much better format! It’ll see some giants in the playoffs…
January 21, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Arsenal could spend £168m and be fine with PSR. It’s simply a choice & Arteta towing the owners line. He wanted an “xfactor” forward after Bayern last year, Mudryk, Neto, Vlahovic, Sesko all strongly linked and he ends up with Sterling on loan…

Literally in the data from their own accounts.
January 14, 2025 at 8:40 AM
They needed an attacker anyway, and Arteta isn’t stupid enough to not know that - he’s just towing company line. But now they need 2.

Sterling & Trossard are garbage. Martinelli has been poor all season. Havertz in a blip and Saka injured.

That cannot be the front 5 relied upon for UCL/PL
January 14, 2025 at 8:32 AM
I’d genuinely send the kids, Sterling + Trossard to SJP. That tie is dead.

Crying out for pace & attacking reinforcements before Sunday but it won’t happen.
January 8, 2025 at 7:43 AM
The major problem James is we don’t have any pace except Martinelli. Zero. You can’t counter with Trossard. It’s exactly why Arteta loves him because he’s methodological & precise, whereas it’s the opposite of what most fans find exciting.
January 8, 2025 at 7:41 AM
@david-ornstein.bsky.social - hi chaps, when you mention January is expensive for Nico Williams, why does it make it any different to the summer? His RC/wages will be the same & Arsenal will still have the cash, no? Unsure as to why that’s highlighted as a blocker for Jan.
January 7, 2025 at 9:20 AM
Nwaneri now out for weeks. I’d find it incredible if Arsenal don’t act this week before Utd on Sunday.

Surprised Carney Chukwuemeka hasn’t been mentioned tbh. HG, athletic, tall ball-carrier at a decent price. The sort of signing we should be all over.
