I am thrilled to be sharing the cover to my "Hidden Histories of Jazz Age New York," forthcoming from SUNY Press, May 2026. @sunypress.bsky.social The cover uses a detail from Lily Furedi's WPA painting "Subway."

I have never seen a political campaign that has created as much joy as that of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social. Contrast that with the bitterness, sourness, and resentment of that of his opponent @andrewcuomo.bsky.social. In itself, this is not a reason to vote for ZM. But I believe it speaks volumes.

i’m continually struck by the joy zohran has brought to this election and the absolute venom with which it’s been met.
For New Yorkers who work the night shift, it can be nearly impossible to participate in political life of our city.

So tonight we’re bringing this campaign to them — starting with taxi drivers waiting at LaGuardia.

Zohran Mamdani's promises of free busses might sound great, but I live in Albuquerque NM where city busses have been free for five years and I'm here to tell you the truth. This is what every bus in my city looks like now. Think carefully about your choice this November.

"Divisive candidate" used to mean candidates who purposely set factions against one another. Now "divisive candidate" means "candidate who makes me feel for the first time in my life like I am being disempowered."
Fuck centrist babies who are throwing hissy fits for not getting their way for once.

“If the Jews want a national home in which their national life and culture will have an untrammeled development, Palestine is not the place.... Anti-Semitism in the whole world will revive and become more entrenched than ever before. This is actually taking shape before our eyes.” H.I. Katibah, 1921

Bari Weiss would be a great name for an old jazz musician name dropped in a Tom Waits song. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
