From my experience with a 1 year old, just making the current system work more efficiently would be the biggest difference. It feels like a constant fight to get his jabs at the right time.

I dont know about that specfic case but the nuclear industry does a pretty good job of creating its own mad expensive schemes...

You should try telling the government that....

Classic dead cat move by starmer and reeves
October 29, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Whys this? Too politically difficult, too risky, too technically difficult to do without significant thought and work going into implementing it (and the govt doesnt have time?)

Would the labour membership buy it if he was talking about big tax increases on middle income people?

Do you know if this means its unlikely NESO will meet its 2025 target?
September 16, 2025 at 9:47 AM
Pretty sure national grid are quite close to being able to run the grid without gas now... not entriely sure where thats up to because NESOs target was this year....

Threat might come from greens in more metropolitan areas

I dont understand how this ties in with voter demographics though? Cushty pensioners are turning to reform.

..taken with a bit of a pinch of salt. % targets make more sense (and should include fugitive emissions across the supply chain including plant start up/shutdown losses etc etc)
September 4, 2025 at 10:54 AM
Im not sure what % the northern lights project intends to capture but i doubt its miniscule. And its much better than what the cement plant emitted before.. cement is a good use case for CCS as the alternatives are technoligally immature currently. Always think gross targets for CCS should be...

If the plants are turned down or the fuel has higher NCV or whatever then there is less CO2 in the flue gas. Providing they are still capturing 95%+ (or whatever % target is) of the co2 im the flue gas then its not a major problem. Youve still reduced co2 entering atmos by that %
September 4, 2025 at 10:39 AM
Are they capturing less than their target in percentage terms?
September 4, 2025 at 10:32 AM
What do you say to the inevitable backlash that (obviously sensible) changes as you've suggested would leave grannys facing huge bills on homes theyve lived in for decades?

What do you mean? Renewables are 37% of our electricity mix this year...
August 31, 2025 at 8:21 AM
electricity costs might be somewhat competitive internationally. Dont think we'll ever be able to compete with countries with good solar capacity though
August 28, 2025 at 6:29 PM
Thank you. AR1 was only for a few GW so doubt itd make that much difference. AR6 was similar price to AR2 by the looks of it. Wind does have a lower lcoe than gas so i guess the hope is we can find the right policy framework, massively invest in transmission and short to medium duration and our...

Do you know how much of this is driven by AR1 and AR2 where the strike price was considerably higher?

Unfortunately, populism is strong... "we should stop net zero and extract our own gas, we should grow our own food" etc....

I dont have all the details but i dont understand why transient loading would lead to stress corrosion cracking. Fatigue cracking, sure. SCC is a funciton of the right temperature, stress (in weld heat affected zones), and the right chemisty (chlorides usually in the case of stainless steel)

Oh sure, think there is more volatility compared to the trends of the last 100 years, bird flu being an example.
August 20, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Is this not because of chickens being culled because of bird flu? This is a big cause of food price rises isnt it?
August 20, 2025 at 9:33 AM
He would have been advocating for that at the time, so he is at least consistent.
