To what extent does "anywhere" really mean, genuinely anywhere? I assume it still helps to have 'hot' rocks, but to what extent?

Totally get this (and more so since kids) - first read this a few years back and honestly, it's starker when you visualise it: The Tail End — Wait But Why share.google/aHMekJMw0Mcw...
The Tail End — Wait But Why
No matter what your age, you may, without realizing it, be enjoying the very last chapter of the relationships that matter most to you. Make it count.

We aim to lay legislation to implement the changes to permitted development for air source heat pumps very shortly, so you won’t have long to wait.

Brilliant progress.

I've been looking but can't work out where the stuff on expanding permitted development got to - is there anything you can point to?

E.g. yes we will need CCS for net zero. No it doesn't make sense to change away from our current approach. Fusion would be a game changer, but we shouldn't wait for it. NBS positive, but won't solve the problem and need to be done properly...

I think the report is largely* sensible _if_ taken as additive to a "go faster on commercialised tech" approach. It doesn't, obviously. I don't think it says this is either/or, but stupid to ignore what is currently working.

*Honestly it is too long and I haven't read the whole thing

Interested as well in what types of renewables make up those capacities - surely south coast predominantly solar, meaning low price periods likely to be different to those in Scotland, etc (with resulting differences in economics for heat pump running/ rooftop solar investment)?

Yep true, and probs tends to be added by more engaged consumers, but there's a wide variety of installations with different property types etc (look at the fabric tab)

heatpumpmonitor.org tells a bit of a more positive story (and with live data albeit it's a smaller sample size than the ESC study)

2.9 is pretty awful, though, for a modern installation. SCoPs >4 now pretty common it seems so easily tips the balance

A couple with a Hue bridge. But would be keen to automate the battery a bit - maybe the bulbs are a better one to experiment with. Thanks!

Any pointers on where to start with home assistant for a relatively computer literate (but not familiar with coding) person?
