Perfect example of this is grayling on the Tweed. Was isolated in the 1855 when introduced on the Teviot, but now pretty much widespread throughout the Tweed catchment helped by the removals of the caulds over the decades.

Do not forget about all the little water invertebrates that will get some good amount of food from it 😊

This certainly would be useful to know.

Additionally dam operators in the Tweed district don’t have water temperature monitoring system of their water bodies, let alone other parameters such as O2. So how can they operate their compensation flow and freshets with informed knowledge is beyond me. Maybe a change in legislation is required?

My prelim findings on the Tweed showed that the Fruid reservoir by mid July does not have not a hypolimnetic layer to draw on. Meaning when freshets are released they were putting in water that is on average warmer than riverine temperature. Potentially increasing riverine temperatures.

I found this book: never split the difference by Chris Voss a useful tool to achieve trust and respect in those people you may inherently disagree with over facts.

Having just finished work as a freshwater fisheries biologist I concur facts alone do not change peoples minds. Trust, respect and social groups are a scientist best methods to implement change.

Ultimately I’m here on Bluesky to have fun, learn, talk science and share the beauty of the UK through my camera lens

But on a base level I just love all thing natural and trying to capture it on any device that’s available. Here some snap shots from my time at @uofgsbohvm.bsky.social while doing my masters at SCENE

I have just spent the past 3 years with the Tweed Foundation learning the about the ecology and the fisheries of the river Tweed such as but not exclusive to, invertebrates, water temperature, salmon and trout biology and the sport fishing industry it supports
