Quirky and fun, but maybe struggles to balance its tone and thanks to that it kind of meanders? Wish I had a better time with 'Mickey 17'. Mild recommendation only, and I would avoid the trailers as they sold me a wrong (more bombastic) tone...

A ★★★½ review of Mickey 17 (2025)

For those interested, here's my take on the Best Picture nominees of the #Oscars2025...

Pretty sure 'Anora' is winning though. If not, 'The Brutalist'. But my hope, with any chance, would be 'Conclave'.

It's as if Treehouse of Horror did 'Final Destination', or vice versa. Absolutely loved the chaos and death of Perkins' 'The Monkey'! Theo James has an underrated low-key humour in his dramatic performance, and Tatiana Maslany is wonderful in her brief role. Totally recommend...

The LONGLEGS director, Osgood Perkins, uses the already well-painted strokes of Stephen King’s work to craft a horror film that feels fresh, cleverly balancing absurdist comedy w/ gore in a way that will both unsettle & entertain. My review of THE MONKEY: nerdspin.com/the-monkey-r...

It's like if 'Scream' wasn't a murder mystery and instead a rom-com! Had a good time with Ruben's 'Heart Eyes'. Some may be disappointed it's not a stronger slasher, but the film wants to give the us something more romantic. Go in with the right expectations and I recommend this...

The perfect Valentine's day movie! Totally recommend Hancock's 'Companion'.

Also, do NOT look up any spoilers. I'm remarkably impressed how much the trailer restrained itself. So much fun to be had if you go in with no expectations...

It's not bad, but it is a disappointingly unadventurous follow-up to Whannell's previous films 'Upgrade' and 'The Invisible Man' (which I adore!). Three directorial efforts in, I wanted a little bite to it. Soft recommend.

So I am now 'off' Twitter aka X (logged out, not deactivated) but don't expect my usual posts on here instead...

I am opting to post film thoughts on Letterboxd and hoping to reserve here for tidier and niche ideas. Need to finish my script, order my life, bit more profesh' online, career, etc.
Just an FYI, I'm not currently active on here but this will be one of the platforms I migrate to once I'm done with the app formerly known as Twitter! Just taking some time to gather historic info...

"Certainty is the great enemy of unity" and if you want to watch a bunch of gossipy Cardinals, then this is certainly the movie for you! Had a good time with 'Conclave'. It's a drama that teeters on thriller. Two hours of people talking in rooms about faith, power, and truth...

It struggles in transitioning between the drama and songs, but the second half wins you over! Totally recommend the new 'Mean Girls' MUSICAL (I capitalise that because there were legitimately people groaning when songs come on; stellar marketing, Paramount!). It's fetch enough...

To bee or not to bee, that is the question. 'The Beekeeper' is a sweet synergy beetween David Ayer's gangster sensibeelities and Jason Statham's stoic range and sting kicks. It's great lower tier 'John Wick' or a sillier 'The Equalizer', if that's your taste I recommend...

A big grey heron, lost mothers, and parakeets! Miyazaki's 'The Boy and the Heron' is okay. I'm not a huge Studio Ghibli fan but I think it's safe to say it's not the best movie by the studio nor the director, yet is still a fine movie you should check out! Beautiful animation...

A monster movie that's part 'Jaws' and part Japanese postwar trauma! 'Godzilla Minus One' is a low-key blast. I've only seen the American adaptations before, and seemingly so had my audience of chit and Snap chatters, but if you're down for a war drama with a twist go watch it...

It's a slower Shyamalan or a quaint Peele, and in both cases lacking an element of horror. Esmail's 'Leave the World Behind' is good, albeit I found the pacing rocky and I took no delight in it being a mystery without a twist. It's doomscrolling via 'Knock at the Cabin'. Soft recommend...

It's good to see the quaint trailers were made just to appeal to the movie fans. 'Scott Pilgrim Take Off' is an AMAZING retelling of the characters with bold fresh ideas! It's more than a recreation. Eight episodes on Netflix, can be binged in a day, and give it the first two at least. Watch it!...

I don't know if it's actually great or AppleTV+ just has a much better quality of mediocrity? Very much enjoyed Nikou's 'Fingernails', a melancholic love story with a very low-key sci-fi twist. Buckley and Ahmed have a wonderfully quaint chemistry. Watch it!...

"In my world...a loser fighter is going to become a winner"

Fairly surprised by 'Sly', the new Stallone documentary on Netflix. It skips over a lot and is framed like a Rocky-centric memoir, but it's sentimental. A strangely good pairing with the Michael J. Fox doc 'Still'...

It's complete schlock and I fucking loved it! 'The Pope's Exorcist' is on Now and you should watch it. Director Julius Avery's films have a similar gonzo energy as John Carpenter. It's not funny but it's pulpy and efficient. If you're a fan of 'Constantine', this is for you...

The fake cigarette budget on this film must have been insane. 'Maestro' is an emotionally honest account of Leonard Bernstein's life and marriage to Felicia Montealegre. The only thing holding it back is a lack of heavier subject matter, but Cooper's direction is grand. Go watch it... #LFF
