Even trying to use defense adjustments and ERA doesn’t work because again we don’t have enough precision to attribute that properly. There’s a reason that FIP, K to BB%, and SIERA are all still more predictive of future ERA than anything else.

Because FIP is one of the single most descriptive stats of a pitcher’s contributions than any thing else. Pitches simply don’t control and to attribute it to them is to excessive extreme false precision.

The thing people forget about a Cap is that teams don’t try to drive revenue up like they do without one, because they value certainty more. NHL players are guaranteed 50% of revenue but that causes teams to not have an as much of an incentive to increase revenue as before.
