Importantly, in Fig. 5 of the paper, you will notice that even when species elevational ranges remain static over time, when x=0 on the x-axis, then the flowering time still shows a very significant signal of advances in 🌸 time

These regional variations in 🌸 time shifts are not randomly distributed in space, across 🇨🇳, with southwestern ⛰️ ranges being more likely to show delays in 🌸 time while southeastern ⛰️ ranges show advances in 🌸 time

Beavers 🦫🦫🦫🦫 have moved poleward in Alaska 🌐🌎 & future expansions of their mounds further North in Alaska is likely to reshape the high Arctic w/ complex consequences on the #CO2 storage balance: more permafrost thaw but also more wetlands ⬇️

Since Robert Colwell's seminal study, many studies reported more evidence of elevational ranges shifts in 🏔, including evidence for #mountaintop #extirpation, the so-called #escalator to #extinction from Benjamin Freeman's excellent work published in 2018 in @pnas.org

This study was inspired & motivated by the work of Robert Colwell published in 2008 @science.org

It featured the 3 main risks of 🏔 species shifting their elevational ranges upslope in response to 🌡📈

1️⃣ Mountaintop extinction

2️⃣ Range-shift gaps

3️⃣ Lowland biotic attrition
