I love that we can see all the fireworks displays of southeast London and Kent from our loft window! Here’s a timelapse of about a minute’s worth.

London is such a beautiful city

A fascinating day at Tate Britain seeing the work of two artists: Lee Miller, the fashion turned war photographer, plus the paintings of Edward Burra. The common thread was that their lives were never quite the same after living through war.

Tempted to make one of Lee Miller’s “unusual” recipes.

The miniature railway, derek jarman’s cottage. The strangest general store I’ve ever been to. It was like it was frozen in the 1980s - though that may have been in greatstone.

I feel like the possibility of doing it imminently is underpriced. Though the London times says it “understands” Trump is looking for an off-ramp, amid concern about Iran’s ability to strike US assets in the region. The bit of the article here doesn’t indicate the source of that understanding.

There are currently six live pages being updated on the BBC News homepage - that must be some sort of record.

UK-US trade deal, India-Pakistan conflict, VE Day, Cardinals engage in another round of voting, the British Lions announce their squad, and the Sycamore Gap tree trial jury retires.

We decided my Dad’s 86th birthday weekend was a good moment to open this, which was a gift sometime around 1990. The clarity of the port is remarkable, and it is absolutely delicious! Quite remarkable that a liquid 62 years old is so drinkable.

I’m blown away by how much must have been spent on graphics for this iPhone word game advert.

19kg/43lbs of fentanyl was seized at the Canadian border last year according to US customs and border protection. Around 500 people were intercepted trying to cross illegally.

This is a very thoughtful piece, and @samfr.bsky.social is really onto something in this bit about the paring back of specialist reporters over recent years, making sober analysis of policy much more difficult.

And then we headed to Fatt Pundit a short walk away in Covent Garden for some fabulous Indochinese cuisine

Van Gogh always intended for two sunflowers to be exhibited in a triptych like this, perhaps on a boat to help sailors when they’re far from home.

Ended up watching True Spirit on Netflix, the true story of Australia’s Jessica Watson who sailed around the world unaided at age, 16 bidding for the world record as the youngest person ever to do so. Well worth a watch.
