The study exposes how the lack of a localization agenda in the tech and democracy space results in mismatched interventions and extractive work arrangements. Worryingly, critical researchers and specialist organizations are redirected by donors away from healing initiatives to conflict frames. 💔 4/6

Key finding: Global Majority frontliners experience tech and democracy coalitions as fostering an "illusion of inclusion". They are positioned as aid beneficiaries / project implementors rather than co-designers. Digital harms in Global South become case studies used to justify North advocacies 🤔3/6

This study is latest part of a long convo between Brazilian and Filipino researchers comparing strategies in election campaign messaging, movement-building, disinfo research and tech justice advocacy. We listened to >100 civil society leaders mostly from the Global South/Global Majority. 🇧🇷🇵🇭 2/6
