I bet! I never envy co-parents, except for the space for self it can create, including the almost magical ability to get stuff done. I wouldn’t trade any of what I’ve got, ofc. And we’ll have all of that space we can stand all too soon

Thanks, we’ll see how many others have the same plan 😅

We drove down to the Central Valley today and plan to drive into Yosemite tomorrow. The kids still want turkey one of these days, so I bought two to cook sometime in December

It’s okay, just remind him that “Life on our planet has been a constant series of cataclysmic events, and we are more suitable for extinction than a trilobite or a reptile.” Memento mori!

Perhaps he has already begun to realize that “Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness.”

Or you’ve let him watch season one of The Mandalorian?

I just realized that although my kids’ Cub Scout pack wants to call me their PR chair, I’m actually their unpaid social media intern. I’m okay with that 😅

A colleague at bishop’s convocation recently referred to curiosity as a “fruit of the Spirit that Paul accidentally left off the list,” and I really dig that

Srdj, may I share how after being totally away from the field for 16 years and counting how truly *shocking* it is to keep running into names like Ikenberry, Mearsheimer, Walt, et al, in public discourse. Like, won’t these guys ever retire? (Probably not for a while!)

Look, I don’t have ADHD, it’s just a squirrel rave 🐿️ in my brain 24/7, and I don’t always remember to complete my

Some other ideas: Get outside, walk around, look up, closely inspect a tree or rock, travel (within your means) to somewhere you’ve never seen, get up in time to watch the sun rise, watch it set, seek out the closest creek, river, lake or ocean, and listen to the water until you can’t stand it

I think I could hold forth for at least 30 minutes confining myself to how the MCU is basically a grab bag of “soft” sci-fi

Regrettably, this is still sitting on my shelf unread… wait! Libby has it as an audiobook [hold placed]

Look upon her ye stouthearted and despair! Resistance is futile, you will be drawn into fur-cuddles!

She’s Captain Marvel, of course: tall, blonde, strong, kinda grumpy sometimes, but always trying to help others and atone for her mistakes. Look out when she goes into her full-powered mode!

Middle child, reading over my shoulder: “Which of The Marvels am I?”

This is how I felt about her Poisonwood Bible, and that’s the main reason I’m unlikely to pick up Demon Copperhead. I’ve never been to Africa, but its meditations on the costs ministry imposes on ministers’ families was too close to home

The first five who come to mind (alas, all dudes):

• Robert Farrar Capon (all, starting w Parables)
• Dietrich Bonhoeffer (all, starting w Discipleship)
• Rob Bell (esp. Velvet Elvis)
• Augustine (esp. Confessions)
• Martin Bell (esp. The Way of the Wolf)

Sometime before I arrived, my current congregation did a massive overhaul of the kitchen’s electrical system to accommodate rows of lefse griddles and/or crock pots

“The track record of science fiction authors starting their own religions is, shall we say, spotty at best.” 😂😂😂

Ooh, thank you! This helped me find one of my seminary profs who had a huge influence on me with just one class and a handful of chapel sermons, Dr. Yolanda Pierce. I’m following people pretty carefully on here, a lesson learned from my comparative experiences on FB & Insta

HUZZAH 🎉

Agreed. The only thing I can say for it is I’ve hated doing any kind of sales, including fundraisers, my whole life, and popcorn turned my two older ones into highly motivated budding entrepreneurs. My oldest daughter wants to be a Girl Scout now, too, just to sell cookies 😂

Supply lines, storage tanks and shutoff valves are definitively not the glamorous part of plumbing, but you quickly learn to appreciate their value when they’re broken, missing or malfunctioning!
