Don't remember seeing this Ravilious before. Back Gardens, 1935. Love the viewpoint and composition and the delicious English dampness.

Just a few minutes stroll from home - thrilling music from the insultingly young George Johnson Quartet with good cheap vegan food. At the new-to-me-but-not-new Karamel N22.

As hotel management in passive aggressive war with each other, or as terrifying partners in life and in business.

Apparently I took this 20 years ago. Piccadilly Line. Felt like something you weren't meant to have seen.

But the publisher seems to have lasted a decent while, because you see older illustrations and then very clearly 80s ones in the same sort of format.

Found this saucy postcard among some vintage theatre programmes I bought off Ebay from a woman who was clearing out her late brother's flat. Unstamped, but addressed to a Clive in Earls Court: "Thanks for an unexpectedly memorable weekend." Perhaps he forgot to post it, or changed his mind.

Dunno quite what i think: I'm more in sympathy with Lineker's politics than I suspect I would be with, for example, Syed's. And you could apply this bit to, for example, JKR, whose platform is huge, not bound by contractual obligations, but also never sits down to be rigorously challenged.

This from Matthew Syed made me pause for thought: Gary Lineker's views are amplified not just because of his BBC platform but because they are perceived as breaching impartiality rules and hence make news simply by doing that. www.thetimes.com/sport/footba...
