We often describe our emotional attitudes towards fictional characters in terms that seem literal, and at least carry no flags of intonation etc to suggest they are nonliteral. E.g., “I felt sorry for Ken at first, but then later was disgusted at him for being such a douche.” 1/2 #philsky

This was _exactly_ my experience of that movie.
I regret to say I was with Ebert on that one. So many people seemed to love Home Alone and when I saw it I thought it was just... unpleasant. I just couldn't get into the "live action cartoon" mindframe it needed the audience to have to be funny.

As someone who loves Trek; and loves musicals; and loves musical episodes in general… that was pretty meh. There were maybe three clever lyrics, tops? (The little Klingon number was great though — should have been way more of that sort of thing!)
