On March 15, 1783 #GeorgeWashington further solidified his legacy as the indispensable man, when he quelled the Newburgh Conspiracy, in an address during which he said:

“Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have not only grown gray but almost blind in service of my country.”
The painting, credited to Jane Sutherland, depicts George Washington addressing the officers in the Newburgh Conspiracy on March 15, 1783.
