Frankly, I think the main thing crippling the Democratic Party is my generation's irony and resulting political passivity (cf. Barack Obama).

I'm sure that's true - The level of increased living standards that generation experienced was like nothing we've ever seen, and might only be rivaled by Gen Z's post-AI era.

But I do think GenXers have uniquely surreal experience, which is maybe why we're such a political non-factor.

There's a pre-information age world and post one. We GenXers grew up through both sides of it. It's a very surreal way of having to make sense of things.

Christmas present for me: Wizards and Glass is far and away my favorite.

The prequel is somehow the climax of the series. I enjoyed the final three books immensely but they were anticlimactic after W&G.

Do you think those anachronisms were a conscious stylistic choice or did his editor drop the ball?

I think what bothers me are some of the odd anachronisms, especially in the case of Charlie. Maybe I'm being overly picky but at one point I remember Charlie saying "in a pig's eye," which is an expression no American 17 year old has said in 40+ years.

Trump's about to do his best to overthrow the constitutional order and commit crimes with SCOTUS-guaranteed immunity, and I'm supposed to be worried about an 80-year-old using his last bit of political power to protect his son from it all.

Perhaps Arendt's most sanguine description of political action. But in later years she recognizes that - as we'll soon see - action can just as well be applied by tyranny to change realities.

It's why I've increasingly come to value work's stability over agency in the current political world.

You've finally made it - your very own troll account.

Perfect timing.

I've been working my way through the entire extended series. Recently finished Salem's Lot and Low Men in Yellow Coats. Closing in on the end of Wizard and Glass (Susan, you deserved so much better than to be destroyed by shrews, predators, and fools).

Please be careful of spoiler.

Dude, I think you're officially a celebrity now.

When they figure out how guard 3s.
November 23, 2024 at 7:29 PM
We keep thinking that but they somehow end up pretty competitive every game. At one point I thought the Hornets where going to blow them out.

If Cade's out though, it might not be pretty.

Yes.

Hornets - win (payback)
Magic - loss (away game & Duren usually performs badly against them)
Raptors - win (home)
Grizzlies - win(assuming Ja still out)
Pacers - win (highly motivated for NBA cup game - Pacers not as into it this year)
76ers - loss (back-to-back post-emotional win)
