Wasn’t this sort of the concept of The Recount? It’s a problem when a news aggregator is too ‘short form’ for high info voters and ‘too heavy’ for low info or the terminally online.

+1 for finding the books disappointing direct adaptations of the corresponding episodes. ‘The Creek’ and ‘The Beach’ have had some tweaks that make them better (or less clunky at least) to read, but the episodes themselves are just lovely that I’d honestly suggest starting there when you feel ready.
