Looks like something right out of Star Trek's engine room! Plasma inside the ST40 fusion reactor, filmed in color for the first time.

At this point the 2006 movie Idiocracy was a documentary...

One of the books I revisit every year is Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg (a Michigander prison psychologist).

Beyond the title, the book is a pragmatic guide for how to foster meaningful conversations. It's so good that it's a new required reading at Microsoft.

The only things that stay the same are the dead. Even then, the form undergoes eventual changes. Let nothing stop you from living your best self.

If NPCs are programmed to follow the rules, then maybe PCs are all about bending or breaking them. This raises a good question: What's the real difference between a heroic PC and an equally heroic NPC? A player can toss the rulebook and scripts to stay true to their own character.

One thing that is really lacking from AI art is 'creative weirdness'. This old D&D book illustration as an example is so creatively imperfect that I can immediately tell it's human made.

I beg of you Etsy and eBay, please just outright ban AI generated product images. Maybe even add a simple detection step. The market is getting spammed with products with the ONLY images being fully AI slop generated images.

Please fix.

I just can't ever see buying a product online when all its product pictures are AI generated/filter. I don't care how well the actual product details are preserved, the fact is I'm now suspicious enough to just buy from another vender, even if on-paper they are not as good.

A quintessential example of where sometimes the institutional reviews are critiquing on the details and missing the forest for the trees🏹

It's vibes all the way down. Training an AI model on just a few select topics may cause it to learn about many unrelated topics in extremely implicit hidden ways!

RIP Clear Linux. Hopefully those performance tuning makes it back it to mainline 🍷

It's always bothered me that programming languages have methods to operate on arrays, but little native functions to similarly work on grids/matrices. Often grids are not even first class primitives and have to be worked with as crude arrays-of-arrays.

This feels like Doctor Octopus' arms from Spiderman is totally possible now. One might say even with arm's reach.

X is becoming such a dumpster fire. Asking Grok 4 about any key political topics causes it to source Elon's tweets exclusively for answer context.

Ofc this is also after Grok3 going all Hitler and threatening harm to people yesterday.

This all started four days ago when Elon said he had made a significant Grok improvement to fix its obviously incorrect biases when fact checking...
July 9, 2025 at 7:39 PM
1) First Elon says he's going to lobotomize Grok wokeness
2) xPM Nikita Bier's grok is antichrist statement
3) Next day Grok going full alt-right/fascist
4) CEO Linda Yaccarino resigning the very next day

...all random coincidences or should we be concerned?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but of all the men's clothing I've had, these have been the most durable (~10yrs):
- Carhartt
- Arborwear
- Levi's
- L.L.Bean

You and me are not the same if you think the new Lion King was just as good as the original.

Disney should have learned the lesson that engaging character expressiveness is far more important than pure realism.
