Fire Exit- native american, deep and sad conveyance of the emptiness of the "tribe." The story metaphorically feels like it is going nowhere, like the tribes, and then...the ending is incredible, incredibly well done.

The Hunger of Women- intense in part because there is no punctuation, just a poetic flow, like ancient incantation. If being a cook was a species, this is a woman of that species, cooking, communing, reconciling, adventuring with other women. Wholly unique.

Got a subscription to small UK publisher And Other Stories last year. Several books have been exceptional in a specific way- the "voice" of the writer, for lack of a better term, is so distinct and unique (to me) it is like making a cross cultural friend, through whose eyes I can see the world:
