I once saw a groundsman spend five minutes with his petrol leaf blower forming a small pile of leaves. Just as he was finishing the wind picked up and dispersed them all again. He just walked off.

I had an earpiece like that in an electronics kit I had as a kid.

And to be fair, it fixed a *lot* of networking issues (especially when cablers claimed to be installing Cat 5 cable but really were installing knock-off Cat 3)

Speed/duplex autodetect was well known to be flakey. If you ever reported network performance issues to vendors you were always told to force the setting at both ends.

So force the PI's nic to 10/half duplex.

Running at 10Mb/s (or 100), many devices struggle deciding whether to do half or full duplex. Manually setting speed & duplex at both nic & switch is the only way to fix it.

Parkrun is about "doing": It's not about time. It's why it's not called Parkrace.

If you had a collection of bulletins you could display them on a board for people to browse.
November 2, 2025 at 5:57 PM
You could then produce another type of bounds which gives you information on what's happened in the past day or so. Maybe call it Bulletins?

I found the juggling different technologies fun. The challenge nowadays is that each area is just getting so complex. It's too hard to juggle all the technologies to a reasonable depth.

When you're the front end dev, back end dev, DBA, OS SysAdmin, network admin, etc.
November 2, 2025 at 5:22 PM
If you're a full time dev you can probably cope with it. But I'm only a part-time dev (write something, come back 6 months later to add a feature) and I just don't need that extra hassle.

I started getting into React. I could see the point of it (it reminded me of early GUI programming) but I got frustrated by the breaking changes causing re-working code.
