...where to begin
Special Envoy, Jillian Segal, can appoint people now?

Recusals, excusals and perusals

Maybe the system is working....though you won't find this info in the #NACC Annual Report.

These are the only reported comments I've seen from Jillian Segal regarding the neo-Nazi rally outside NSW Parliament.

The US has announced its revised list of critical minerals.

Via Exec Order uranium and metallurgical coal have been added.

Unclear whether this change impacts the recent AUS US critical minerals deal/agreement/compact.

AUS list does not currently include either.

No words.

Sen David Pocock asked Estimates about the Australian Parliamentary Sports Club, the on again off again lobbyist body.

Now confirmed the Sports Club is a completely separate entity, and not associated with the Dept of Parl Services. DPS has no role in its operation nor has it provided funding.

Pretty sure public and political pressure forced this move by #NACC Commissioner Brereton to NOW recuse himself from Defence referrals.

Obvious to most that this should've been implemented from the get go, not after public pressure and outcry.

They do plenty of outreach activities though.

Just a footnote to the Israel trip re:airfares
October 25, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Folks will also note the Israel trip in May this year to attend an Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs event. Netanyahu, Herzog and Sa'ar spoke at the event.

A chance for our Special Envoy to chat with other Special Envoys and talk IHRA.

This is the full extent of the Special Envoy's (and her staff's) international travel as at 7 August 2025

* the final travel cost for the US trip may be less ranging from approximately $45,000 to $55,000 based on the following:
October 24, 2025 at 10:34 PM
The Special Envoy's trip also appeared to have slipped the Secretary's mind at Estimates, and she didn't add anything to the of substance ....including failing to advise estimates that she approved the trip.
October 24, 2025 at 10:34 PM
Concerningly, the hapless official who approved the sweeping FOI redactions was the same individual who was the cost centre manager for confirming that funding was available for Ms. Segal's and her staffer’s US travel.

This overlap casts a shadow over the independence of the FOI redaction process.
October 24, 2025 at 10:34 PM
The extent of the secrecy of the trip became apparent when a Freedom of Information (FOI) request for details on the trip returned a staggering 70 pages of near-total blackouts and redactions.
October 24, 2025 at 10:34 PM
Because the expenditure exceeded the $50,000 threshold, the Secretary of Home Affairs and the minister were automatically briefed on the travel.

The secretary of Home Affairs approved the travel.
October 24, 2025 at 10:34 PM
The journey, which spanned from February 27 to March 6, included two nights in Los Angeles and the remainder in New York. The International Travel Request, including airfares, accommodation, and other expenses, was costed at $61,736.68 *.

THREAD: A veil of secrecy and forgetfulness hangs over a taxpayer-funded mission to the United States earlier this year, involving Special Envoy Jillian Segal and one staffer.

The purpose of the trip, which covered less than ten days, have never been made public.

No 3 looks like an attack on requisite permits (probably environment)...the old red/green tape reduction trick.

No sign of the two way arms trade between Australia and Israel slowing as Australia purchases approx $20m worth of weapons from Elbit.
October 18, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Novel approach adopted by a one govt department re: FOI redactions.

The blacked out redactions are now whited out redactions.

Makes it less embarrassing for them I guess.
