I am back from vacation. Poland is beautiful. Warsaw was one of the cleanest cities I've ever been to. The food, even for someone who doesn't eat beef or pork, was amazing and CHEAP.
For maybe the first time in my life, jet lag is kicking my ass. I just can't get back to my normal sleep routine 😴

In pottery class, we're doing face jugs. My teacher said we could do any face - human, Minster, robot.
I went Japanese Demon. I based it on Oni masks.
It's the first time I've done any sculpture. It was so fun. This took me about 12 hours.

I went Japanese Demon. I based it on Oni masks.

I was innocently shopping for craft supplies and I got attacked like this.

In my absolute moment of brilliance (unironic) I saved the bottom of the tissue box so I knew the exact measurement of the clay when wet. I used that to throw a top to make it into a vase

An update on the box project:
So this was done by taking small bits of clay, pressing a pattern in them and then layering them inside a tissue box. You only blend the very edges of each piece as you place it. And try not to mess up your texture.

On a way better note, I made this (very girly) bowl. Thrown on the wheel and then altered. I've wanted to try a decorative split rim. I like how it turned out... but I'm a little sad it's speckled clay. All of my ideas for decorating don't involve the speckles.

This soup mug is the love of my life. You have to meet it in person to appreciate how well the glaze flows and breaks. And the shape was exactly what I wanted. That is less common in my throwing than I would like to admit.

These two little dudes were my first foray into throwing off the hump. It's a technique where you put a lot of clay on the wheel and then make many little pieces from it. I lost a few pieces trying to get good at cutting them off. I am stupid proud I made it out with 2 pieces.

I also got some stuff back from the glaze kiln, so here is my latest haul:
This box was hard slab construction. Reclaimed dark clay and vanilla glaze that I brushed back. I spent hours carving that pattern in. I kind of love the finished look.

Day 1 of my pottrty hand building class, i made an egg. It's my first pinch pot (or actually my first 2, then put together). Next week, we are going to work on altering it and surface smoothing.
I think I'm going to like this class a lot.

I seem to only post about pottery. I swear, i do other things. But I am sickly proud of this little canister. It's the first gallery lid I've ever made. I maybe was so pleased with it that I spent waaaaay too much time painting it. But now it is making me so happy.

I made a very 1970s small casserole dish. This was thrown on the wheel and then shaped into a rectangle. It was a really interesting process to try, i just wish I liked the outcome more. You can't see it in this picture, but the handles are very uneven, because attention to detail!! Is my strength!!
