Ultimately, you are right. Real world references are not comparible to genai. I just don't think it's worth wasting energy on examples where its usage is close to impercivable.

Sure, but again: individual use is very small compared to the demands corporations place upon these datacenters. Joe schmoe isn't going to generate so much slop that openai needs to expand their data centers by 30 acres. But every corporation demanding the tech replaces all their artists might.

I won't argue the ethics of using a model trained off stolen art, nor do I want to. I just think there are problems sprung from genai that are worth more of ur time and energy than whatever an artist chooses to use for a piece ultimately created by their own two hands.

I don't wanna dismiss that. I just want to approach genai with more nuance.
Individual use of ai for, say, reference material (emphasis on reference, not paintovers) does not affect the world in nearly the same way as an entire industry replacing artists and voice actors for a "cheaper" alternative.
