A diminishing number of our problems can be solved with technology.

Yeah I just don’t think this can apply to speeding cameras. The value for BadThings of a speeding camera network is marginal compared to the extant panopticon.

And there’s no path to getting rid of those tools! There is no credible movement whatsoever to get rid of this stuff. There is some pubic support, possibly growing, to use it for good.

The panopticon exists and is being used for bad things, I simply think we should use it for good things.

Just in general people imho still have 1995 attitudes about cameras in public. “We shouldn’t have cameras there!” as if they cameras haven’t already been there for a literal generation already.

There’s no way that’s current sensing in the drive motors, right? Do they have captouch in there?

Haven’t run the numbers and don’t feel strongly about implementation details but I still think KE/s works here, eg “you can have a super high powered shot as long as it takes 6 seconds between shots”

Go on please

My humble proposal continues to be that we simply ban firearms based on a threshold of “kinetic energy per unit time.” But no, let’s talk about the shape of the handle some more

If we wanted a technological solution for this, breathalyzers in-line with your car’s ignition have been feasible for multiple decades and commercially viable at a reasonable price for at least one decade

Baby books are so obsolete the phrase “baby book” isn’t in use anymore. Just a couple decades ago parents would stick photos in a book and write “first steps” etc

mRNA, cold lightbulbs, e-bikes, roombas, vapes, video calls, live spoken machine translation, baby books made obsolete by crazy cheap cloud storage… I think we just get used to the cool stuff very quickly tbh

Where it previously said “ULTRA MAGA EDITION” (as if it was a truck brand or whatever) it now just has adhesive residue. One thing at a time

It’s coming on the heels of crypto and the metaverse and the crypto metaverse, which doesn’t help.

If you view these articles as “a response to everything that comes out of Sam Altman’s mouth,” I think it seems more reasonable.

That said the negative polarization is real. It’s just the the positive hype is also dramatically polarized.

AI: it’s neat! won’t take off as a slogan.

I was a 3.5mm stereo maximalist for a long time and even I now hail our USB-C overlords. Basically I think it was the correct call but only because of the grace of European regulators

Hopefully insurance companies will be pushing the guidance that will save them the most money (eg, encouraging easy shots)

All the best aerospace designs have threaded fasteners placed every 1/2 inch

That also works for me

Or were you talking about the AI generated receipt when you obliquely asked her to not use the tools of fascism

The ecosystem is providing amazing content though. I think this person is talking about actblue? bsky.app/profile/dust...
