I was under the impression that people wanted what they voted for (or failed to vote against).
There were an abundance of warning signs but I guess everyone is just blameless. I guess no one needs to learn any kind of lesson at all.

I agree to some extent. But you need to examine what they were doing. When you do it USUALLY falls apart.
It becomes clear they were just being lazy. They were spending time reading pop music magazines (or really whatever niche interest they might have) instead of making an attempt to be informed.
