So I don't think all the blame should fall on Sherman. He was opining. He had an opinion. Then you had the aggregators ditch all the nuance and talk about "Harper on the trade block," which was never true.

Sports talk radio reacted to that, as well as to comments by Ruben Amaro speculating the Phillies "could" potentially maybe move "one of the big contracts" this winter. Obviously, speculation turned to Harper, and others, by the way. Fans, bloggers, podcasters simply reacted to all that.

So, I think that's a simplistic take, to be honest. Dave Dombrowski's comments were surprising, so much so we ALL were wondering what he was trying to accomplish. Joel Sherman of the NY Post heard them and opined that he wouldn't be shocked if Harper was traded, given the unusualness of the comments
