Any group without at least one shared value will fail. Especially if the common "shared" value is your own self-interest. Because, as Trusk showed, my self-interest is not your self-interest.
That's why "villains always fall out".

If it weren't for Trump, they'd be speaking German in Stalingrad.

If Coca-Cola put arsenic in coke, Rolls-Royce sugar in the gas tank, or Disney switched to porn, they could not do a better job of destroying an iconic brand than Trump with "The United States of America".
All irreversible.

I know for a fact my Alma mater in the UK is a huge beneficiary of this.
All this talent could quickly catapult the UK and Europe into the premier AI league.

I don't need to. The market would crash. But there is so much short term US debt which needs to be refinanced, they might not have to sell. Just get repaid and not buy any more.

Bessent claims we can grow out of debt.
Debt/gdp now is 1.32. Under Reagan it peaked at 0.4.
Assume a target of 0.6 in 10 yrs and a balanced budge for that period. So debt remains constant and costs 4% p.a.
I'm lazy so used ChatGPT.
To hit the target GDP must grow 12.3% for 10yrs.
?????

Bessent claims growth fixes the US debt/gdp ratio at 1.3.
Assume we want to reduce that to 0.6 in 10 years. (Under Reagan it peaked at 0.4.) Assume a balanced budget so debt remains constant at 4% p.a.
How must GDP grow to hit 0.6 in 10 years.
Answer: 12.35% per annum.
What does that tell us?

The whole political and financial system's at risk. The world needs a leader. Bessent is outgunned. Carney, like Churchill, I believe is the man of the moment. Amazing CV plus 80% support at home. Much you may never see but that's good.

Read Citizen Soldiers: The U. S. Army from the Normandy Beaches to Berlin by Stephen Ambrose.
He summarizes WWII as
"Once the battle over, Germans shot, Japanese beheaded, and Russians raped. GI's handed out chocolate."
Says it all and explains the last 80yrs

I feel for Mike Pence. I don't like the way he empowered evangelists. I do understand his loyalty conflicts.
But can there be any doubt that this is a good man? Who, if everything he said I was opposed to, I would want him as a worthy opponent.
Proof of the old adage..no good deed goes unpunished.

Compare Europe in the 1930s and now.
Einstein fled Germany for the US, ensuring Hitler never had a nuke.
Europe now is mounting a campaign to attract talent here that feels unwelcome.
Statistically, there's a chance some of the unwelcome o/s students here will win Nobel Prizes.
Ignorance is bliss.
