(Plus, I’ve been running the website since the mid 90s, when websites were still a new and exciting thing, so this was just a logical extension. That said, I do have different opinions than my dad, so don’t take any opinions I may express as being from the author unless I specifically say so.)

Full disclaimer: I’m the son of the author. I manage the fan mail and social media because my dad hates Hates HATES social media stuff.

I just feel it’s better for someone invested in the author and series to manage it than some anonymous intern at a publishing house.

Because of reasons, that particular run of books had a higher quality control than normal. Not the plots, but typos and their ilk are at much lower levels than otherwise.

That said, “Secret Prey” (1998) has one of the worst mistakes in any of the books. Should have been caught, but wasn’t.

In order? Consecutive? Older or recent?

Because the people who own the rights made two mediocre TV movies (“Mind Prey” in 1997 and “Certain Prey” in 2011) and have done nothing with the rights since then. The author offered $1M for the rights back and they said no.

Or tell him how to pronounce Edina or Wayzata. (Although I did try.)

I regularly get email praising or complaining about the latest Alex Cross book, so I’m not surprised.

So how much have you spent at @mysteriousbookshop.com?

It’s his father’s mother. Sorry for the ambiguity. And I’m afraid we don’t know. We’ve got some pretty solid genealogy going back, but not going forward again. There’s probably a relation way, way back, but I have no way of knowing for sure.

(As a second aside, the author himself doesn't do any social media. He sort of resents it, in fact. I'm his son, and I've run the website and stuff since the 90s. If I didn't do the social media, someone else – someone corporate – WOULD do it, and that just won't do.)
