Just realised this, as well as the ANT hunting guards, is a further subversion of ALIENS (1986) for an audience who largely wouldn’t have seen it yet (teens maybe, kids like me at the time - no). This time the Alien rescues Stella/Newt.

Tonight's ST:TNG - 'Family'

Picard goes back to the family vineyard to thrash out his PTSD with his brother. Contains men mud wrestling, if that's your sort of thing.

Tonight's movie was BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF (1953) in which a young Robert Wagner, plays a Greek sponge fisherman (no, really) and tangles with Peter Graves and a giant octopus. The 3rd film ever shot in Cinemascope, it was Oscar nominated for best Cinematography

In HOME ALONE (1990) Catherine O'Hara's Kate calls the local police when she gets to Paris Orly Airport after realising they left Kevin home. She instructs her other family to 'call everyone they can think of' except no one, including her, actually tries calling Kevin at the house to see if he's OK.

“Yeah, Chris, don’t worry, the cover will be really fuckin’ Christmassy just like you wanted…”

Two weeks later

“What the feck is this!?”

Maybe you're thinking of the Vortex, the final challenge in each episode of The Adventure Game?

The brilliant thing about the Drogna game is that the contestants are so fascinated by the floor they nearly always miss the whacking great clue with an arrow above it on the wall. In this case Dorgan (Sarah Lam) has had to appear twice to draw attention to it.

Watched TRAFIC (1971) the other night and while not as epic as PLAYTIME (1967) or heartfelt as MON ONCLE (1958) there's plenty of fun to be had from the frequently interrupted road trip. Plus no one shoots 20th century modernism like Tati does.

Did ST:TNG The Best of Both Worlds tonight (sorry I've not been keeping up with the episode recaps - but yay, we're now on season 4)

While people rightly remember Locutus, it's a really good story for Riker, in the captain's chair and even getting to do the Guinan chat.

Swiftly followed in the next episode by Janet Fielding, which is nice.

"For the cover we need something that really sums up this taut WW2 thriller..."

"Um... do it in a big Star Trek font?"
