Vegepygmy and Froghemoth, also from module S3 (among the greatest and most epic modules ever), are NOT dumb; they are weird and cool; and I will die on that hill.

Don't you dare go insult my homeboy The Flumph, though. It's got monster imposter syndrome; be nice.

Not a gotcha monster, but one of the dumbest:
Guess what two words are its name? Yep.

Enjoying quiet time at home after being away for far too long. Moments like Mochi cuddling in the crook of my arm are more precious than ever.

During filming of the Rancor sequence for "Return of the Jedi", Tippett and the ILM crew had some fun pitting the beast against their earlier creation, Vermithrax from "Dragonslayer" (a good film that still should hold up as having good effects).

Moebius: such a great artist. A mind bursting with creativity.

Perhaps relevant to your interests, and financial wherewithal.
Collect all of this sucky stuff!

Just unpacked this Kickstarter bonanza. If you were a gamer in the 80s you may have, as I did, loved these paper-and-dice Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. A mix of solo #TTRPG rules-lite and choose your own adventure. Now 'remastered' and gorgeous. Hours of entertainment coming for me!

Taking it easy at home with our 4 cats. Mochi is getting sleepy.

I finished reading Thomas Ligotti's corporate horror novella "My Work Is Not Yet Done". If you like Lovecraftian/weird fiction, Ligotti's work is a must-read. The novella is an odd series of 3 stories taking a steely dark, witty look into the empty souls of corporations. I loved this.

Watching more "Masters of Horrror" (Prime) episodes (season 2). Finding these was a true joy. Top directors (Carpenter, Landis, Hooper) + good budget & cast (Perlman! Wendt!) and script + phenomenal practical effects by Greg Nicotero et al. = really great ~45 min short stories. Highly recommended!

And Masaya scanned the best-preserved bones of Deinosuchus (giant Cretaceous ~crocodylian) to make a scaled-up model of an adult alligator, and try to get it to support walking dynamics. Deinosuchus, as simulated, could not walk well at all.

This involved empirical data collection on an ontogenetic spectrum of gators in Florida (several papers by Iijima & Blob recently) & using these in inverse dynamic simulations to estimate muscle forces & activations across body sizes. Simulation of right hindlimb shown; red colours = active muscles

I love walking into the lab and seeing something odd that's new and wondering what's going on. A fantasy dino diorama?

Nice clean foot bones for our alpaca-inspired robotic leg design, with Sara Abad Guaman's team from UCL.

Same. Those goblins were freaky. And the Skeletor Witch King of Angmar was badass. dai.ly/x495p06

Tycho Brahe; painting from the Royal Society. Pre-telescope Dutch "astronomer, astrologer, and alchemist". Lost his nose in a duel about maths. Rocked a brass prosthetic nose. He probably could use it to smell planets and shit. Dude partied HARD. We can all only aspire to such greatness.

I love street art/graffiti and here is a BIG case in point, in Shoreditch, London.
(A business; wording says Sky Guild Gaming Centre-- but the area has loads of cool street art)

Yeah I caved in. Probably mind-controlled.

"L.O.V.E. Machine" from W.A.S.P.'s metal powerhouse concert. I had a blast.

#HeavyMetal night at the Eventim Apollo (= Hammersmith Odeon), a great art deco theatre: back to the 1980s for me with Armored Saint and W.A.S.P.! Bucket list bands I had given up hope on seeing; am so chuffed to see them live!

Mochi cuddles on my back while Hermes seeks a scritching. #Caturday

Weird-- still gives me an unusable file.

#AlienEarth season 1: overall, I liked it. Finale was disappointing but the overall worldbuilding was cool (despite some re-imagining, and too much Westworld), some characters/monsters were interesting, visuals were exceptional; there's plenty to enjoy.
