I was asked a while back about the latest device that will supposedly be used in a PRC invasion of Taiwan, a three stage landing bridge (pictured) It reminds me irresistibly of the late Heath Robinson (UK equivalent of Rube Goldberg)

A new cycling + running route for Nancy and me in Ray Road Mareeba. Beautiful country and enjoyable despite heat and humidity (Dew point 23, Temp 26, Feels Like 29). Gradually getiing distance back up, to 13km this time. #personal #johnqpersonal

AI is taking over the world, and our data is being used to micro-target us with advertising. Look at this scarily accurate set of job openings LinkedIn has found for me.

I tried Google Lens for the first time today. It failed to identify what a text search finally revealed was a tomato knife. And all the links were to shops selling (non-tomato) .knives. Ensh*ttification got to Lens before I did.

Typical idiot comment from rural NIMBY. "I will vote Green when there is a wind farm on Bondi beach and a solar farm in Centennial park"
Here's Bondi pavilion, covered in solar panels

Obviously, you'd put a wind farm offshore for technical reasons

It certainly looks as if the 30-year inflation adjusted bond rate for US Treasuries is responding to changes in the Federal Funds Rate, the shortest term there is. This makes no sense to me #econtwitter

Alleged discovery of guns and grenades in #Gaza hospital has strong "mobile $Iraqi weapons lab" vibes to me. If Hamas were going to use a hospital as cover for a terrorist base, I'd have thought there would be something more substantial than half a dozen rifles
