I gave up on FERC’s EQR database a decade ago. No data standardization. No quality control. Mostly serves as an episodic source for journalists needing a number without regard for veracity. Maybe it’s been improved since.
Anybody have experience with FERC's big, unruly EQR dataset to understand PPAs, locational value of DERs, or other interesting problems? Was it a pain to work with? We're looking for use cases / horror stories for a data liberation grant. @solarchase.bsky.social #EnergySky

This is an excellent thread/review of Nate Silver’s new book. I got into finance believing in GTO and learned about the real world of exploitative.
Chapter 1 of the book is all about poker and the emergence of GTO (game theory optimal) strategy.

Nate contrasts GTO to exploitative strategy and, uh, doesn’t seem to actually understand the point of exploitative poker strategy.

(This is a wonky point, but bear with me.)

When I was an undergraduate, I protested apartheid. I participated in a sit-in, taking over the Princeton administration offices. It violated university rules. Lucky for me that the university did not expel me as these litigants would have MIT expel these students.
