That’s a strong letter. The government is winning the narrative on this.

One more point: it might be orthodox but I challenge anyone to defend a better strategy. More deficit stimulus? = higher int rates. More austerity? Fiscal tightening = slower growth. It’s a boring orthodox and vital formula.

Blairite cos it is pro power of business to grow wealth, but not leave it all to markets. And not redistributive.

It’s really Clintonesque: get interest rates down to boost growth and gov spend. To reduce inflation and interest , eliminate deficits. You can’t raise tax so non fiscal pro growth policies - trade deals, skills, capital for infrastructure, remove planning rules, support r&d science and innovation.

This is true globally. As party memberships take more control of leadership elections, nominees are becoming more like party memberships and less like the electorate.

The nomination of someone who centrists could not support was unreasonable and provocative. Shouldn’t be overlooked. It’s not enough to say he had a cv. That cv was deeply divisive.

The real start of polarisation was the end of earmarks.

Who is paying 35 quid for a bottle of Spy Valley? Bottom of mid tier label that retails for 10 quid at home.

No, it's not the case that only China is responsible for the large decline in extreme poverty over the past decades.

We wrote about it recently: ourworldindata.org/data-insights/was-the-global-decline-of-extreme-poverty-only-due-to-china

Problem was not the timing. It’s the use of an abstract colour coded warning. No one knows what they mean. Red - should I put on sunscreen? ‘Flood warning’ and dangerous’ Re better. Misguided to blame metereology for uncertainty. Coronial legal process is poor at platforming unmerited accusation.

It’s also helpful when many non waged incomes are indexed to real wages. We also want to know returns to capital though. Question about wages and migration is why open access to AU doesn’t lift avg NZ incomes to the same level?

Perhaps but we have comparatively relaxed immigration rules and a proportion of people immigrating are using NZ as a gateway to Australia. Our emigration is high partly because of open access to Australia.
