Johnny Faro
@johnnyfaro.bsky.social
Known by the sobriquet Johnny Faro, this well-known scoundrel, swindler, and fraud is nothing more than a low-life grifter, a confidence man, a huckster, and a scheming practitioner of flimflammery. He should never be trusted by anyone with anything.

There's nothing more American than a good, old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration in a good, old-fashioned Gold Rush town. Except maybe a good, old-fashioned game of Faro.

This is what those "toothless neoliberalism boring boomers" had to face down in Berkeley in 1969. The blood you see on the road ahead of you was shed by them.

I'm not a veteran, but I play one at historical reenactments. Happy 250th birthday to the U.S. Army, and happy Flag Day.

Happy Bear Flag Revolt Day from Sonoma, California! This is the original California Bear Flag. Well, it's the original reproduction made in 1911 after the actual original flag burned in the San Francisco fire of 1906. Close enough.

This Saturday, June 14th, will be the 179th anniversary of the raising of the Bear Flag. A celebration and reenactment of the flag raising will be held at the site of the Bear Flag Revolt in Sonoma Plaza, across from the Sonoma Barracks.

Oh, yeah...and guess who'll be there dealing faro? 😁

I found this picture on the California State Historic Park website. I'm almost famous!

John C. Frémont deceived the Bear Flaggers into giving up the independent Republic of California. As the agreement was offered under false pretenses, it could be argued that it is null and void. Perhaps it's time to reclaim our independence.

At the peak of it's run as California's biggest gold rush boom town, Columbia had 134 faro games operating in town. Today they had only one. Today I was the faro king of Columbia.

Missed "Columbia Diggins 1852?" You can still catch "Gold Rush Days" at Columbia State Historical Park on Saturday, June 1st, from 1 to 4 PM. Costumed docents will be everywhere, and you might even see a gold rush gambler dealing a square game of faro or the like. Bring your gold dust (or nuggets)!

Behold the latest contraption to grace Johnny Faro’s den of iniquity! This here layout is for GRAND HAZARD, a game as fine as they come in the high-class saloons of the Old West. It’s been said that the simpler “Chuck-A-Luck” was its spawn.

I still have my stats syllabus from college. It definitely wasn't easy to get through that class. Congratulations!

Columbia Diggins 1852 was a blast! I want to do it again. 😁

I've been invited to deal faro at the Exchange Saloon at Columbia Diggins this Saturday, May 17th. If you've never visited Columbia State Historic Park, this would be the weekend to see what a real California Gold Rush mining town was like. Come enjoy a refreshing sarsaparilla and buck the tiger!

Even the lawman wanted to get in on the action.

I'll be operating a game of faro this weekend at Vallejo's Petaluma Adobe State Park for Living History Day. If you've never played the most popular gambling game of the nineteenth century, you're invited to come and "buck the tiger."
