They see an ad like this and laugh. The ongoing mistake of the left is this incessant need to appeal to a component of human nature that simply does not exist in the hearts of those participating in our democracy's demise. Scott Jennings is unreachable. ICE is worse than Scott Jennings.

The people who are signing up for ICE are not humane humans. They are inhuman monsters. This is the culture of ICE. It is so important to really, really get this. They WANT to be attacked so they can retaliate. They WANT people to see them being cruel. They WANT to hurt brown people.

The fact that they get paid is a bonus, but these people would do it for free. The thing that has held them back was not pay. It was impunity. The impunity is more motivating than the pay. I worry that people simply do not understand the severity of the moment we're in.

Anyone who's spent time in chatrooms of gun enthusiasts for the last few years understands this better than the rest of us. The people who are signing up for ICE are people who have longed, for decades, to do exactly what ICE is doing.

I think it's really important to understand that the people who are signing up for ICE are doing so precisely BECAUSE they get to do terrible things to brown people AND preserve their anonymity with a mask. This ad, while well-intentioned, is woefully naive.

The only reason any of this is happening is because tens of millions of Americans are idiots. At what point do we stop calling out the surfers and start calling out the tidal wave of idiots?
