The plan is to develop minor league talent and sign cheap free agents. Flip the free agents at the deadline for prospects. Once the young talent reaches the point of an expensive contact, trade the talent for prospects. Continue each season and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. See 2015 Royals.

I saw the Smoking Popes in concert at a bookstore in Champaign when I was in college. I didn't know any of their music. I just was intrigued by their name. They put on a good show.
