woke up, can’t go back to sleep

So I decided to watch a horror movie that was recommended to me.

"The Legend of Ochi" is a wonderfully weird fantasy movie featuring impressive practical creature effects. It may borrow heavily from others, but at times, it feels like Robert Eggers attempting a "How to Train Your Dragon (Sasquatch, Yoda?)” remake.

This may not be a popular opinion, but I always thought Val Kilmer was a terrific Bruce Wayne /Batman

Rest in peace, Val. Your acting meant a lot to me.

Death of a Unicorn is like someone took an SNL sketch and made a suspenseful Jurassic Park movie out of it. Genuinely fun and surprisingly sentimental. Very rare to find a movie that combines horror, comedy, and fantasy with satisfaction

I have not seen one single preview for this.

So I have no idea what I’m in for

Finally got permission to talk about this movie. #Warfare is the first great movie this year. It’s not just a war film but it also might be considered a horror film. Extremely tense and deeply upsetting. And certainly not for the squeamish

Time to be amazed or devastated. Or both.

I have no idea what I’m in for, but I am off to catch a very early presentation of this tonight. I have a weakness for Alex Garland , no matter how the movie turns out

Opus rocks! Another John Malkovich showcase with Midsommar vibes. The movie dares to ask the question: what if Bono were a cult leader? And given the performance, it's just as funny as it sounds

Didn’t get to see this one at Sundance. But I do love second chances.

PLAINCLOTHES is another standout film about same-sex relationships at Sundance. The use of VHS clips to create dread and audio telecommunication frequencies to evoke anxiety is an inspired decision. The central romance is captivating and bittersweet. I loved it.

BY DESIGN certainly makes many intentionally absurd and baffling choices, and honestly, I respect several of them. Juliette Lews might have picked her strangest role yet with this movie. I admire it more than I love it. Points for originality, but it’s not my taste in decor.

THE THINGS YOU KILL is a film that demands your full attention. It doesn't guide you through the story, and if you look away for even a moment, you may lose track of the plot entirely. An abstract exploration of inherited trauma, with a touch of vengeance on the side.

THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR elicited a magnitude of emotions. The central villain of this real life story is one of the weakest and most repugnant individuals ever documented. This is the type of documentary where you can’t wait for the bad guy to get what they deserve.

My first dive into the Sundance virtual catalogue is TRAIN DREAMS

Narratively heart-wrenching and mesmerizingly shot, it feels like a poem about the frustration and beauty of life. Joel Edgerton delivers a tender and heartbreaking performance.

Wolf Man is most effective when it explores the horrors of becoming an animal. However, some themes of abuse and aggression feel rather sluggish at this point. It will entertain, but it is less surprising than The Invisible Man

I loved The Invisible Man from a few years ago. Naturally, I am hyped for this.
