This is the doing of Brandon Creighton, the new chancellor of the Texas Tech system. He most recently was a member of the Texas state legislature. He has sponsored some incredibly bad legislation, most recently, SB 17 and SB 37 which gutted DEI and promoted censorship of race and gender topics.

I dread what is going to happen to geology departments. It’s already grim with programs and entire departments being eliminated due to budget cuts.

By the way, very pretty photo of Glasgow that you posted. Never had the chance to be there, except for the airport.

And, of course, the previous map was the subject of litigation. It’s just a mess. And we get to do it all over again after the 2030 US Census.

Back in 2012, Texas moved the filing deadlines due to redistricting litigation. It was messy, to say the least

It happened in Texas back in 2012. Due to litigation over redistricting, the primaries were moved from Super Tuesday on March 6 to early April and ultimately to late May. The state has a website detailing all the twists and turns of Texas redistricting. redistricting.capitol.texas.gov/history
