I took time out, went to college as mature student. After 2 years, figured out that I didn't want to do what I was studying. By then I figured that I could make a bit of money in photography so that's where I've been since. The soft skills you've picked up on the way to being 'too old' will help :-)

Yea, it's shit. By the time they let you go, you're possibly 'too old' to get another job. That's how I ended up self employed. I was also lucky because I was very close to paying off my mortgage. You transition into a new life and if you can manage the money aspect, things will be fine.

Sorry to hear that. I was made redundant a few years ago after decades in the job. The money situation will change and there's often that rush to get back earning again. Give yourself space and be nice to yourself. It's a cloud and while you can't see it now, It will have a silver lining.

I've met people that think I spend my days taking photos. In reality, I spend about 30%, or less of my time doing that. The rest is all of the above ... and coffee. :-)

I don't know whether this is a good or a bad thing, but I'm here chucking to myself. :-)
