Today in the studio, the work responding to the blustery weather outside. Weather warning for wind. Autumn has suddenly arrived and my paintings tell their own story. #todayinthestudio #weatherpaintings #weatherwarning #somethingintheair #autumnsea #sunday

Some of the paintings I will be exhibiting soon at Green Gallery in Buchlyvie, Stirlingshire. Beautifully framed @FarndonFrames. This summer’s sunshine has been great but the changeability of the Scottish weather continues to inspire me. #scottishweather #coastalart #latesummer

My painting Borderland explores a place where garden meets a fallow field. I am very pleased that it will be part of someone’s home thanks to Alan at Fidra Fine Art who included it along with other paintings of mine in their Summer Exhibition. #warmyellows #umbers #fallowfield #artcollector

Listening to the Waves, one of my Sandend paintings just found a new home with a lovely couple who popped in to see the Summer Exhibition @fidrafineart. Three of my four paintings found homes in the past week. Fidra Fine Art is such a welcoming place to find work you can live with. #artcollecting

January on a Border Farm might seem an unusual choice for the time of year but when it sold yesterday @strathearngallery in Crieff it made me remember the beauty of winter and how poignant the structure of trees in winter can be. Love Brueghel’s paintings of the four seasons. #artforthehome #creiff

Storm, Cythera was completed during my artists residency at Wrexham University. It was a piece that provoked much discussion during the residency. Very much a conversation with Watteau #storm #watteau

Sarah at The Russell Gallery, in Putney sent me this lovely picture of my painting “Behold the Sea” in their Summer Exhibition. Always lovely to show work at The Russell Gallery. #londongallery #artlondon #londoninteriors #putney #seascapes

Nice to see this painting go off from Edinburgh to America from the festival show @graystonegallery, especially as it’s my first sale with the gallery in my first show with them. So good to know someone wants to live with your work! #edinburghfestival #artedinburgh#banffshire

Just sitting in the garden painting the flowers and the washing. It’s easy to fall into an impressionist frame of mind on a summer’s day like this. And why not? #impressionism #garden #satie #artinthegarden #smallpaintings @thelemondgallery

A closer look at Seeing and Remembering. Low tide, summer haze, shifting light and perceptions, mixing with memory as you try to match what’s seen to what’s remembered. Never reconciled, they coexist, as suggestions and counter suggestions in paint that might equate to an experience of place.

Two facets of the same ambition in my painting. Knowing what I want to do in painting is easy, translating that into actual paintings is unbelievably hard. But knowing what I want is the bit I’m most grateful for. #contemporarylandscapepainting #modernscottishart #lanscapepaintingnow #coastalart

Through the light and sea spray the cement factory suddenly became a cathedral. Painting at Barns Ness on the east coast of Scotland near Dunbar. #paintingthesea #impressionistic #trickofthelight #seascapeart #artcommunity #artcollector #scottishartist #exhibitionart

“Storm, Cythera” refers to the painting by Watteau. The gallant day trippers fled as a storm approached, and now only we are left. My association with the Watteau came through the act of painting. No direct image reference, just a place I wanted to go in paint. #artresidency

Across a bay distant buildings become a mirage, floating in the diffracted sea spray haze, visual impressions overwritten by shifting, alternating memories and perceptions. Places we never quite reach. #contemporaryart #artistsresidency @wrexham_school_of_art #paintingsdaily #scottishartist

It’s a painting of a place that will be lost in the mists of time. And yet it will always be a place as a painting. Made in a rainstorm under a tarpaulin, Rainstorm and Wildflowers has found a new home. Thanks to The Biscuit Factory #newcastle #sold #enpleinair #paintscotland #britishcontemporaryart

Painting as a process of remembering a place. Not a place I can visit, that place is gone. It’s where my mother grew up but now she is gone. So the painting became a place for remembering what my mother shared with me, experienced through it’s making and remaking. #thinkingthroughpainting #place

Working from paintings made en plein air to create a build up of these experiences in studio paintings. I revisit these places through painting. #artistsstudio #travellingthroughpainting #travellingwithoutmoving #contemporarypainting #contemporarypaintingdaily
