I did my PhD while working full time, across two different employments. I’m not in academia, flirted with it, decided against it. I had a lot of factors on my side but it’s a tough ask, happy to talk.

‘Shame’ is also misspelled unless we are using and archaic form of the letter ‘s’

I was going to say ‘it worked for…’ but it looks like libel is back in fashion…

Is it not traditional to bet on yourself to win so you can afford the bribes to the other riders to let you win?

I moved all of mine to *checks notes* CD ROM.

True; though saying ‘EVs are making people car sick’ then explaining it in terms of a feature that they don’t use or one which has been around for a while in petrol cars was the bit that confused me.
September 14, 2025 at 12:29 PM
That bit makes perfect sense. But no U.K. or European EVs are self driving. Some have adaptavive cruise control but that’s been around for a while and there are almost certainly more petrol cars with it than electric…
September 14, 2025 at 12:18 PM
There’s a weird jump from EVs to self driving cars in there and that makes no sense to me.
September 13, 2025 at 7:40 PM
It’s a bit odd. I hear this and I’m confused. I have an ev and it’s the most comfortable car by some distance I have ever driven. I drove the petrol version of it for a while when it was in for its service and everyone complained about how they felt queasy…

4 to 8 just getting on with the dirty work and making the space for the fun to flow. Absolutely nothing to not like.

I genuinely couldn’t name it. Somewhere in Oxfordshire on sand. There had been a rescue dig on the next field (it was 1992). First I could name was Bampton, digging up some random, but very charming old bloke’s rose bed in search of the other half of an sfb.

It’s the angle of the photo and light - the shadow on the lower hull hides the full depth so the wing looks to join in the wrong place. (Boring and you already realised that I know)

No one finishes a PhD where they started.
July 31, 2025 at 7:47 AM
Yes, I dabbled with colonial stuff in my thesis, though I deliberately chose a focus that I could manage as a self funded student. Immersing yourself in that world would get genuinely quite dark quite quickly.
July 31, 2025 at 7:29 AM
You did the PhD that I joked about be the best opportunity to escape the mud and cold when I was a digger and for that I salute you.

Feedback welcome as long as it’s more constructive than editor 1 (different journal to the one it’s formatted for, I hasten to add)

Ok so I never actually deleted my account so here goes. There’s quite a bit of literature on how ‘facts’ became such in the 17th century come out since, which is why I never updated it… www.academia.edu/143169349/Ma...

Do people still use academia.edu or did that get properly enshitificated when they moved to an exorbitant subscription model?
