Straight answer. U.S. citizens didn’t have healthcare. During a labor shortage an IRS clerk answered that if an employer provides healthcare, that benefit is deductible. Our system was born.

I believe, perhaps wrongly, that to say someone lied means you have evidence of their intent. Evidence, not feelings or beliefs.
