At any given time, less than 10% of the non-Medicare-eligible population is covered with private plans in the marketplaces.

But there is a minor surge in so-called "non-group" coverage in early adulthood.

And then, as folks approach Medicare, non-group coverage really takes off.

1. In this Brookings study, we worked w/ AHRQ to study the “target efficiency” of Medicaid expansions. This is an economic concept that measures how effectively a policy reaches its intended recipients while minimizing resources spent on unintended recipients.

highly recommend the "jagged frontier" randomized field experiment of giving AI to management consultant teams. for tasks inside the frontier, those randomized to AI tools were markedly more productive; for those outside the frontier, they did worse.

Here, for example is a picture of how coverage over the typical American's lifetime has shifted between 2009 and 2022.

There are now critical years--especially in late childhood and young adulthood, where the likelihood of being uninsured is now considerably lower.
