Brit immigrant in Germany glad to have escaped the Other Place. Pro-EU; married to a wonderful man; BIR fanatic with ridiculously full spice cupboard.
Happily blocked by Ian Dunt and proud member of the ‘FBPE NAFO boomer cohort’.

Just what we need, politicians running.

Or this act of depravity.

It’s good to be muted by racists.

People seem to have forgotten this atrocity, here in a pic from a 2022 Guardian article which lauded her imaginary personality whilst simultaneously pretending that Liz Truss was a normal human being.

Such a delicate flower…

One couple - she works the land and he for a health authority - are doing everything they can to give their child an independent education ⬇️

I think it‘s supposed to be the Durham Miners‘ Hall at Redhills in the City of Durham.

There was a time when ornamentation *really* mattered.

A hard-fought win today for the Leipzig IceFighters. A lot of joy here in the wonderfully named Kohlrabi Cirkus.

Wandering around Ravenna on a hot September day feels like a distant memory back in Leipzig with autumn looming.
San Vitale, grumpy Justinian and let’s not forget the floor ducks.

Empty-headed yet never silent, the archetypal rebel without a clue. Lovingly curated by the BBC, the same auntie Beeb that brought you Saville, Harris and the shouting food man, among others.

I think about the HRE a lot, largely due to Peter Wilson. I’m not sure where it sits in pop culture on account of appropriation by bad political actors currently, but the maps for Europa Universalis 5 are quite something. No wonder Charles V retired. Here he is in Palermo, looking stick-thin.

I honestly thought Dunt had more to him than this. Suppose a clue was in the gratuitous swearing - guess I’ll let Striking 13 go then - what a prickly pear…

Tree of the day, a beech shaped like a boy’s haircut.

A timely article but there may be some way to go in order to dispel the WWII myths, some of which are a result of our own wartime propaganda - eg Low’s ‘Very well, alone’ cartoon from 1940. A glance at 🇬🇧 order of battle in Egypt that same year makes a nonsense of the isolation trope.

Wrong answer. St Bede was born in Northumbria, wrote the first history of England and was somewhat less German than Edmund. Probably gets the Northern vote.

That first paragraph reminded me of this. Uncomfortably prescient fiction.
