Fitzgerald Falls - one of my favorite spots along the Appalachian Trail in southern New York state. It was not far from our house and a short half-mile hike in from the road. (2 seconds, f22, ISO200 with a D700 on a tripod.) #photography #waterfalls #hiking

This was certainly the coolest sunset that I've ever come across. I had been kayaking all afternoon on Peconic Bay near the tip of Long Island in June, 2020 - let's call it a pandemic paddle - and ended beaching at this exact spot on an oyster pond. (1/500th, f8, ISO5000.) #photography #sunsets

This is the local gazebo which is right on the Indian River Bay and across the lagoon - and down a ways - from our house. I shot this last month with the D810, my current favorite camera. (1/250th, f8, ISO800) #photography #black&white

We get some great sunrises and sunsets around here. This one is a sunset. But, according to a quote often attributed to Ansel Adams, "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." (1/125th, f2.8, ISO125) #photography

Another oldie, this one from June, 2013, taken in my backyard. This dragonfly was very aware of me and kept flying away and then returning to the same branch. It may have been messing with me, I dunno. (1/1000th, f8, ISO800 using a D700 which is my very favorite camera.)

I made this image of snow in a field almost exactly 10 years ago today while living in Warwick, N.Y. Those humps were created by tall grasses that were bent to the ground by the snowfall. I drove past this scene, went home and grabbed my D700. (1/800th, f14, ISO1600) #photography #black&white

Came across this old barn while wandering - I was probably lost - somewhere in the Catskills in Oct., 2014. If you've never been, it's depressed in them thar mountains. (1/600th, f5.6, ISO400 using Fuji X100S.) #photography #black&white

Backyard sprinkler from April 30, 2006 using the ancient technology D70 camera. (Handheld at 1/50th, f14, with the ISO "not recorded.") If I ever taught a course I would tell people that there are good images waiting to be made everywhere - even from mundane objects in your backyard. #photography

One more from the "super old" files: This image made on 9th Avenue near 35th Street on August 1, 2001. No, it wasn't posed. Just some guy's left hand resting on a mailbox. He's around the corner on the right and didn't know I was there, not that it matters. (1/250th, f4.8, ISO400) #photography

Hey, it's the Flatiron Building taken in Sept. 4, 2004! Probably one of the most photographed buildings in America and definitely one of the oldest purely digital files in my archive. (1/1250th, f4.5 and ISO info "not defined" on an ancient D70.) #Photography #Black&White #Flatiron #Manhattan

7 a.m. at the local fishing pier. Low tide. Damn near killed myself on the slippery rocks. (1/350th, f10, ISO800 on a D810 at 16mm with polarizing filter.) #photography

These fish were very smart and had distinct personalities. It took them a while to warm to me - but flicking food pellets with my left hand seemed to help a lot. (125th, f11, 3200 - 85mm on a D700 body.) #photography #koi

Sharp-eyed observers will notice that's a bungee cord up there - not a crossbar. That's because during warm-ups it saves time. Smart kids these days. (1600th, f22, ISO800) #Photography #track #sports
