As a longtime reader and subscriber of the Guardian and Observer I'm disappointed by the complete absence of information given to readers about the Observer sale. Over the last five months the only information I have seen has come via the Press Gazette.

"The Trust claims the Observer was facing an existential crisis. But they failed to raise this once with me during my 6-year editorship which ended last month. And when I asked to address the Trust to make the case opposing the deal, the chair refused."
The announcement of the sale of The Observer to Tortoise Media is a grim end to a shaming episode for the Scott Trust.🧵

A terrible decision by GMG and Scott Trust.
Latest on Guardian selling off The Observer from the FT (paywall removed). It's going ahead today, evidently. No attempt at justification from the Scott Trust. Shameful. @gonuj.org on.ft.com/4fXDvqj
