Add a two line response that reflects on the haiku, directly or obliquely.

Great! I feel it keeps me fresh!

Bob Dylan’s song, Day of the Locusts, was written about Brood X at the Princeton commencement ceremony in 1970. Kites did not become regular visitors to New Jersey until 1981. They missed quite a feast that year.

Seems to me that “drunken stab” was not a one off…

Unless I am bingeing old videos late at night for nostalgia, I rarely listen to music not released in the current year. Every January, I open a new playlist and add songs that catch my attention as they are released. My 2025 playlist is at 83 songs right now. I play chunks here and there.

You know what’s funny? When people see a band that’s been around around a while, they always shout to hear one or two old songs and they get antsy during new material. This, Roger Daltrey at 81 singing I hope I die before I get old.

“There are more keys than doors left” really puts the title in perspective. Thank you for adding the notes. The allusions are so incisive as is the reflection at the end.

Dean, I really like the pacing of this poem that just enough punctuation and line breaks give us.

I’ll message you, since others may be waiting for responses.

Thank you, Beth. I don’t submit as much as I should, so every acceptance is precious. The editor had posted that she was reading all weekend and she sure was!!!

Thank you so much, Dean!

I am generally not a counter. I cap a haiku with two lines that feel right. Funny thing, if I do count it is in New Jersey syllables, where owl equals towel.

I think you made excellent choices!

I like the slant rhyme at the end, stirring it up.
