He was posthumously inducted into the Native American Hall of Fame and was the subject of the “Jesse Ed Davis: Natural Anthem” at the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, OK.

He recorded his first solo album ¡Jesse Davis! In1971, featuring Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, and Gram Parsons. He appeared on albums with B.B. King, Jackson Brown, John Lee Hooker, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and many other rock stars.

He was born and raised in Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in English literature. His musical career took off as a member of Taj Mahal’s band, playing on each of Mahal’s first 4 albums and making a legendary performance on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.

His novel House Made of Dawn was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1969. He was born in Lawton, OK but spent most of his childhood on Diné, Pueblo, and Apache reservations in Arizona and New Mexico.
