A much better pic than my photo-bombing Stonechat from 2022. (PS. Thanks for your recent iNat hoverfly IDs).

The Jennings brewery in Cockermouth is up and running again as an independent family-owned brewery, and is worth a visit. This is the view from the beer garden at the back, where you can see serious flood damage to one of the buildings near the bridge.

A holiday pic from last week. We did a family walk around Ennerdale, which was lovely. It's one of the few lakes without a main road running along it, which adds to the tranquility. It is also home to a project to replace spruce trees with native species.

We walked along this one on Saturday. Thankfully it's a quiet road - as the pavements are totally impassable.

There are several breeding pairs of skylarks still holding on at Warren Farm (@warrenfarmnr.bsky.social) in the west London suburbs. Long may they continue.

A bit late for #wildflowerhour, but the @warrenfarmnr.bsky.social bee orchids are blooming again this year.

Jumping spiders are brilliant. The Salticus species in the UK probably have similar abilities, but are less studied.

A slightly worn Chrysotoxum verralli.

The Thames is a bit high today. I guess it's related to yesterday's eclipse.

I think the proportion of households without vehicle access in the West Ealing area is slightly higher than 1 in 5.

Is this it?

This book contains an excellent introduction to the subject of motoring externalities. It mentions that heavier and faster vehicles cause more non-exhaust emissions, but more braking and acceleration on under-inflated tyres causes them to rise exponentially.

It was indeed a very cold grey day, but I was happy to see some of the Warren Farm Bee Orchids. Flowers are expected in June.
