Derisory from Labour.

They’ve eroded our democratic controls still further with protest laws, unitary authorities etc and then have the gall to tell us the only choice a voter has is them or Reform.

PR now if you want anyone to bother to vote!

Money. Money has bought politics and now overrides any values of democracy, law, decency or freedom. We’re all pawns in big game and Ukraine is being thrown under a bus. Utterly sickening.

We own nothing. We have no sovereign wealth fund. Our infrastructure and public services are on their knees.

Thatcher’s “there is no such thing as Society” legacy. Welcome to Britain in 2025.

Labour jumped right in to the pre-election trap set by Jeremy Hunt by signing up to his fiscal rules and no increase in VAT, income tax or NI.

Reeves is painted in to a corner.

Not just craven enough to grant the referendum he put no checks on it. “Advisory” so it couldn’t be re-run because of misinformation. No requirement for a supermajority.
Cameron up there with Johnson as Britain’s top traitors.

Exactly. There’s a fascinating i/v with Demis Hassabis on AI in the Guardian today: “Solve intelligence and then use it to solve everything else”.

Great. But we know what needs to be done to save the planet. We’re just systematically incapable of doing it.

It’s the atomisation and reinforcement created by social media. Increasingly there is no shared body of truth or world view, just fractured opinions.

Gave up R4 a few years ago. Can’t stomach its Sunday Supplement style of presentation and the endless parroting of what Farage last opined about.

R3 is much better for your peace of mind, especially first thing in the morning.

The elephant in the room for representative democracy is our FPTP voting system.

We need proportional representation like every other country in Europe except Belarus.

The occasional free vote by MPs is good, in my view, but a minor thing.

I bet Lowe does all his shopping via Amazon et al and then is appalled to see the death of independent retailers in the high street. Our day to day choices do have consequences.

ID cards would shatter the comforting delusion that a Brit is born free, independent, anonymous if one so wishes. It’s OK for Tesla, Google etc to know our every move ‘cos they’re just companies. Heaven forbid it could be our state!

Spot on George. It would be so good to be able to vote for who you want, rather than tactically for the least worst. Our voting system barely justifies the label ‘democracy’. We need to leave our brothers in Belarus, the only other European country with FPTP, and get PR.
