Same here. One platform’s an audience, the other’s a community. Big difference.

Welcome to the self-hosted spiral. Step 1: Set a budget. Step 2: Double it. Step 3: Convince yourself it’s an investment. Repeat until you have a data center in your house

Don't you think we were all waiting for the perfect excuse to get out of X once and for all? Now that I don't use it anymore I realize how addictive it was.

For $130 you can get a good 2TB external hard drive, which added to the price of the Mac makes $729, so you still have $120 left that you can invest in a good mouse and keyboard. The 16GB of unified RAM of the Mac is more than enough considering the good resource management used by MacOS.

According to the cinebench database, the M4 is up to the 13th generation Intel i9. And how much does a mini PC equipped with this processor cost? The GEEKOM Mini IT13, is on offer for $849. It offers 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD.

Here is the comparison between M series processors in both multi-core and GPU. The M4 is a beast in multi-core, being the first in the series to surpass the pro version of the previous generation. In GPU we see more differences, but it is still a respectable rival

I have an MBP M1 16GB to work and I use virtual machines, I program, deploy services in docker and I still have enough RAM to run a quantized LLM. So the new M4 must be excellent for almost anyone. The only downside is the storage, but it can be solved by buying a good external hard drive
